1 step forward and 1/2 step back

December 31st, 2007 at 03:35 am

Well, I got ready for work, got in the car. I clicked the remote to open the garage door.

The spring broke.
I called a cab but the cab was late.
So I called in sick.
Where I work, if you are late 1 minute you get an occurance, and after 4 in 1 year you get terminated.
Calling in sick, I still get paid.

I googled garage door repair. I got a few big companies.
I have learned 1 thing by being an out of state landlord:
Small biz is the way to deal.
I went on craiglist and searched.
I found a company who quoted me $170.00 plus tax.
So he shows up and spends 2 hours and also does a garage tune up and replaces cables etc.
Final bill is $268.00.
So, our MMA took a hit for that amount.
Interest earnings are at $100.00 so I think we will absorb this repair just fine.

That is the stupidest policy I ever heard of - they're treating you like first graders!

No, I work for mass transit. It is part of our union contract.

If we do not get to work on time, mass transit suffers.

I don't why companies use the "occurrence" policy; I always thought it was stupid. Now there are those who are always late and it should be dealt with accordingly

Well, like I said, it is part of the union contract.
I am grateful I am #1 in seniority.
I can pick the shift I want first.

    I work 10-6:30 Wed-Thur and 12-8:30 Fri,Sat,Sun

We get a lot of time off.
    I am off 12-29-1-01
    I was off 12/26
    Also called off 12/18-12/19
All paid time off, so the rules for being on time are fine by me!

I always wondered what would happen if my garage door opener died while my car was parked inside. Shouldn't you be able to open the door manually?

No, too heavy to open if the spring has broken.
If the opener dies, there is a latch to pull to open the door.
